Friends and distance

I like gmail chat. Its compact, inside the mail window no need to install, etc.
I still miss one feature of yahoo messenger which allows showing your online presence to individual friends.
As a work around, I make my status as 'away' and keep chatting with some friends as per the availability of time. So if you are 'close' friend of mine, don't think that I am 'away'. I am just a click away close :)

I am not in touch with some really close friends.. Recently I talked to close friend on phone. The call lasted for what turned out be the longest duration of my personal telephonic conversation. I did have hours of official conf calls earlier but it never occurred to me that I will have so long personal call.

Now I think that although some friends are physically away and not in touch, they all are just a phone call or chat window away :)

In fact a friend also realized this and suggested a voice conf on yahoo messenger. A group of us who were together once, and are now scattered over the globe participate in the conf on weekends. There are updates about everyone, there is chaos, gossip and that is real fun!
